‘Modus - The House of Soul’ is the retail branch of the Modus Archive, selling a large range of music and fashion related items and staging a number of selling exhibitions throughout the year. Our policy is to stock only original items. We have a large stock of records, books, magazines, photographs and related ephemera for sale at our premises on the 4th floor of Belper North Mill. Our aim is to continually update the stock and new items will feature regularly on this website.

On Saturday 17th of November 2018 we welcome original Belper mod and debutant author John ‘J.L.’ Walker to the North Mill to celebrate the recent publication of his novel 'Jump and Dance' (It's a Mods Life). The book is set in and around Belper during the sixties and will bring back fond (and no doubt some not so fond!) memories for many of us and give an insight into the times for those who weren't around. It’s available to buy now from the mill and the website and John has kindly agreed to visit us to sign copies and chat about the book so we hope as many as possible will attend.

"Set during the swinging sixties, JUMP AND DANCE is a story that brings to life the changing music and fashion of the era. J.L. Walker's debut novel shows how aligning yourself with one group, in this case the Mods, brought with it excitement and danger not only from the Rockers, but also the dying breed of Teddy Boys. With a backdrop of unforgettable music, Walker portrays this magical and frightening time to be a teenager.”
